Noise Study Committees Converge at RAA for Meetings

Beginning at 7:00 pm on the evenings of Wednesday, June 9^th and Thursday June 10^th, five of the 12 committees whose volunteer members come from the Noise Compatibility Study Group for Louisville International Airport will be convening meetings at the offices of the Regional Airport Authority of Louisville and Jefferson County.

The committees studying navigation, sensitive-facilities, new technology, rules, and environmental issues will meet. All the committees are examining specific areas related to study and will report findings and recommendations in their subject area for discussion and endorsement by the study group. The study group, which is open to all interested parties, is working with consulting noise experts to develop strategies to minimize the impact of aircraft noise in the Louisville metropolitan area. Included in the committee's tasks are:

- Identification of aircraft noise
- Potential noise abatement measures
- Noise abatement screening criteria
- Identification of noise abatement strategies
- Potential noise mitigation measures
- Selection of noise mitigation screening criteria
- Recommend noise mitigation measures
- Identification of alternatives
- Selection of the preferred alternative
- Recommend Noise Compatibility program
- Selection of public facilities for distribution of the Draft Part 150 Update

While opportunities to cover the meetings during late night news broadcasts may be limited, coverage during noon and early evening broadcasts on Thursday (with the meetings being convened over a two day period) will help inform the public and provide an opportunity for them to get involved with the --a major objective of the public participation component.
