I have a suggestion, maybe on your web site you could put the times when there aren’t going to be any planes going over my head and then that way I could schedule my sleep around those hours.

Date and time of noise event: 11/20 and 11/21 all day.
I was just wondering what was up with all the flights coming directly over my house. i have to say that most of the summer it has been very nice, but it seems like this past weekend, there were more than normal air craft flight patterns coming directly over my house. Like I have said before, I live in a very quit neighborhood and when there is this much air craft traffic we notice it.

Planes have been loud and low flying beginning at 4:45 a.m. up until 5:30 a.m. today. They have constant, every 30 seconds. It is too much noise. They should never have put the airport where it is. It should have been located in Shelby County.

Our community group has tried to work together in an effective manner, but tonight is just not to be believed. The plane noise for the past 2-3 hours is unbelievable. And with all I have to do by tomorrow, you just don’t understand what I am going through. It is all I can do to control my language. Oh no, here comes another one and I see one right behind it. This is unreal. I don’t understand why this can’t be controlled.

Too much noise! Tonight the windows are rattling and is maddening.

Today began with a north wind, generally above threshold values to prompt runway operations to the north. But since mid-afternoon, on-field weather reporting and National Weather Service readings have consistently read below these critical values. It's now nearly 9 PM, and indications are of a 5-knot wind, northwest, and clear conditions, as has been the case since 3 PM. Planes are still departing to the north, over the most populated areas around the airport. Why?

Audubon Parkway

Planes have been departing over the heavily populated areas north of the airport since at least 6 AM. Winds have been generally from the west, and relatively mild. At 6 AM, the on-field report read 4 knots from 240 degrees; at 3 PM it read 11 knots from 260 degrees. National Weather Service hourly postings followed a similar pattern, indicating virtually no tailwind along the axis of the main runways. So why the persistent deviation from preferred runway use?

Since the new runways have been open the noise at my house has been quite bad. We can no longer open the windows in our house at night. The noise from the planes wakes you. Looking at the noise study I see our house is in a traffic dense region. How can I get some relief from the terrible noise?

UPS planes taking off in the early AM make as much or more noise as before the N/S runway were in use. It may be that they are still using the E/W runway or are turning over our area much too soon. The other airlines do not make this noise.

I’m calling to report that the airplane noise last night and this morning have been objectionably loud. The planes seem to be coming over our house or very near our house in Audubon Park and I think they should be going more west of us. And this goes on all the time; I’m just calling today.

Harlan Avenue

I just found this site and it was totally by accident. Obviously it isn’t well publicized. I live in the very first neighborhood west of the new west runway in the Wilder park area on Harlan Ave. and you people have to be crazy to say there is no problem with air plane noise here. It starts at the two most critical rest times in a person’s day –10 p.m. and most of the time 4 a.m. - this is the time most families are sleeping or trying to sleep. And it’s one after another. I know it's the Ups planes arriving and departing. Why can't this traffic be diverted away from the most populated area closest to the airport? Like I said this absolutely ridiculous let me see how much sleep you get.

AROUND 4AM 11-1-99 A LOW FLYING PLANE COMING IN ON THE WEST RUNWAY ABSOLUTELY SCARED THE xxxx OUT OF ME AND MY KIDS I HONESTLY THOUGHT THIS PLANE WAS GOING TO CRASH I LIVE IN THE FIRST RESIDENTIAL AREA WEST OF THE NEW WEST RUNWAY AND THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC IS RIDICULOUS IT IS CRAZY FOR THE AIRPORT TO SAY THERE IS NOT A BIG PROBLEM HERE. THE UPS TRAFFIC ALONE IS ENOUGH TO DRIVE YOU NUTS. HARLAN AVE AND WILDER PARK USED TO BE A DECENT MIDDLE INCOME AREA NOW IT STARTING TO GO DOWN HILL A LOT OF RENTAL PROPERTY IS POPPING UP I WONDER HOW MUCH THE AIR TRAFFIC AND PROPERTY VALUES ARE RELATED COMBINE THAT WITH THE NEW STADIUM AND I DON'T FEEL GOOD ABOUT MY LITTLE NEIGHBORHOOD ANYMORE.

I am concerned because this morning, today is November the 2, 1999, the Election Day. And this morning starting about 3:00 there were airplanes going over making this screaming, screeching noise and they were going over very frequently, say every 5 or 10 minutes. Some were making more noise than others were. I want to know why they have to make this screaming screeching noise. Not all airplanes do it and I think that they should ban the ones that make this. Why can’t they, I need an answer. Why can they not ban the ones that make this screaming screeching noise? And I think it has something to do with the way… Does it have something to do, (this is a question), does it have something to do with the way the airplane is flown that makes it scream and screech like that? It was hard to tell which way these planes were coming from because they were making so much noise it was really hard to tell. It seems like at some times they were going west to east, but I’m not really sure. And all day long today, periodically they have been screeching overhead. This has been one of the worst days; this is November the 2nd. I want to know why it stays so bad. Does it have anything to do with the weather? Those are at least three questions I have asked, and I want to have written answers to my questions please. Thank you and goodbye.

The last 20, 25 minutes there have been four or five planes going over low again. It’s almost 5:30 now and I’d like to get some sleep. Thank you.

At approximately 1:48 a.m. on Monday, October the 8th, there was another screaming airplane flying over. And I’m not sure which way they were coming from because I was doing something else when I was trying to ignore the scream of the airplane. But I’ve asked you once before what is causing them to scream sometimes. Is it the way the pilot flies the plane, or is it something in the plane, or what exactly is causing it, cause not all of them scream at the same volume. Thank you and goodbye.

I have had jets overhead constantly every 2 minutes for about two hours. West Runway is supposed to be overflow, why is there so much traffic overhead tonight?

I live in Audubon Park closer to Poplar Level Road. I though with the new runway that noise from planes would stop. It appears when planes take off lately, they are coming directly over my area. I’ve checked the internet address wondering if others in my area have complained, but haven’t noticed any others. Could someone contact me and let me know what is happening?

I still am being awakened at 4:00 in the morning with ground noise. I don’t know why this racket has to go on so early in the morning. I think it’s unnecessary. I know Bowman Field has perpetrated the same problems on Seneca Gardens and they have told me, people who live in Seneca Gardens tell me it’s illegal; but if it is or not I do not know, I do know that this is a problem. Also there is a land problem in that dumping is taking place over there and the airport authority is doing nothing about it; on the land between Crittenden Drive and what was Louisville Avenue. There is a dead dog in a box that’s been there for months, there are old mattresses there is all kinds of trash dumped over there and it needs to be cleaned up. Thank you very much.

The planes are getting closer and the noise louder in the 40214 and 40118 areas. This 20 degree divergent takeoff on 17R is the main problem. This takeoff pattern is 100% on this runway. Can somebody please tell me why. You have bought out the Minors Lane Heights area, so "why not diverge" and takeoff over this area when flights depart to south on runway 17R. Also to answer the questions of why more echo noise in the area southwest of the airport - when the planes diverge (turn right) they loose airspeed and "hang" in the area longer not to mention the fact they look like they are going to fall out of the sky. In addition it takes more power at takeoff to diverge thus higher noise levels when taking off. CAN SOMEONE CONTACT ME ON HOW I CAN SERVE ON OR ATTEND THE SUB-COMMITEE MEETINGS. ALSO, it says in your handout that "Flights departing to the south must travel 4 miles before turning - why are the turning as soon as the are in the air or lining up for the 20 degree divergence at take off ??????? Its increasing noise in our neighborhoods. Where are the noise study people in National Turnpike Outerloop areas. No one has seen them in our area.

Where are the noise study people in our area. We need them because in the past several months the noise has increased in the National Turnpike - Outer Loop areas. I would like to serve on or attend serveral of the commitee meetings. Also, is there anyone on these commitees that live arround this area. Or has a study been done since the increase in 17R southbound departures (the last 4 months) seems all flights diverge this way.

I was awaken by the noise of the roar from the aircraft at 3 a.m. and I am still awake at 4:30 a.m. It seems to be getting worse. I’d not have moved here four years ago had I known it would be like this.

Aircraft have flown over my house continuously for the past hour. I would like it to stop. They say I’m not in the noise area, but the noise has been really bad this morning. I’m not kidding, there has been an aircraft fly over every 3 minutes for the past hour. Ever since they built this new runway the noise has been really bad. Have them fly toward another direction or stop all together.

We are tired of the nonsense of the 10 foot barrier that we are suposed to get. The noise at night around 3 in the morning from UPS and the Air National Guard carriers wake us up and we can't resume our sleep. Some of these old houses are not soundproof, so I ask of you to reconsider us on this matter. Thank you.

I am calling because I was awakened at 3:00 this morning with airplanes and I don’t know who is taking off at 3:00 in the morning, but there were planes in the air and they were either over my house or closely adjacent to it. This went on till about 5:00, 5:30. It was not just ground noise, it was air noise and the only people that I could think of would be UPS or the National Guard. And I just wander why they are going over the residential areas at that time of the morning, why they're not using the southern runway and going over the industrial areas? Thank you very much.
