Old Ford Road New Albany, 47150 November 2001 Airplane so low and noisy it rattled walls and shook the house. A two engine jet going south to land. Denise Way Floyd Knobs, 47119 November 2001 My first noise complaint...sorry, next time I will know to keep better track of date & time. I have been very concerned at the increase in noise of planes over our home in Floyd Knobs Indiana that are headed into the Louisville airport. At first, I thought I was imagining the problem but then saw an article in the newspaper (October 20-Courier Journal) that confirmed my concerns. I believe the problem has lessened since then but I wanted to voice my complaint since it appears that there is the potential that this problem could continue if planes are directed in/out from the west more than they have been in the past. I will need to stay informed of future meeting dates as I know that my neighbors and I will want to attend to voice our concerns. Thank you. Belgravia Court Louisville, 40208 November 2001 I was awakened from a deep sleep at 11:31 P.M. according to the digital clock on my headboard. At first, I thought I was dreaming. I thought a plane was about to crash into my house. Then, I awakened more fully and lay in bed for a few minutes and then got up, put on my robe, went downstairs to find the number for the airport authority and left a voice-mail for a Mr.Slattery. It is now 12:35 A.M. and I have, at this point, been awake for an hour. The planes come every three minutes. There is no break. Just as you are about to drift back into sleep, the high pitched whine of the next oncoming plane begins and then it reaches full throttle overhead and it sounds as if it is going to land on your roof. We sleep on the second floor. It is, of course, worse on the third. My brother, who recently spent the night in our guest room on the third floor said it reminded him of his days in the Navy when he served on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf War. It is just so discouraging to know I will end up selling this lovely house because of the airport noise. No amount of citizen involvement or noise abatement hearings will adequately effect the fact that I can't sleep tonight because of decisions our "leaders" made by placing an airport with a major hub in the middle of a densely populated portion of the city. Our daughter is 22 now and lives in another city. When she was three or four, and we lived in the Highlands, she would be awakened in the night by the planes and come to our bedside, frightened that a tornado was about to land. So, in one form or another, this noise has followed us for quite some time now. It's now 12:44 and another one just roared overhead. This will continue for the rest of the night. If I do drift off, my dreams will be filled with falling planes. 12:46 and there goes another. 12:49 and there goes another. 12:50 and there goes another. That one made my windows vibrate. 12:52 and here comes another. I've never had a chance to time them so precisely as this. They are actually a little closer together than I thought.12:54. Another. There does seem to be some variation in altitude. That last one seemed to be coming in a bit higher and the noise was softer. The windows didn't vibrate. 12:57. Another. Once again a bit higher. 1:00 AM This one was lower but not so low as to make the windows vibrate. And so it will continue. 1:02AM This one was lower still but the windows did not shake. 1:04AM a train whistle off in the distance. 1:06 AM This one was softer. Altitude does make a difference. Alexander Avenue Louisville, 40217 November 2001 Thanks to the airplanes, I am loosing another night of sleep. Here it is 1AM on 11/30/01 and the planes have been flying OVER our house since sometime around 11PM on 11/29/01. This has been going on the last couple of nights. I have a feeling it is UPS, but do not know this for sure. Come on!!!, bring these guys in another way and let the people in the Germantown area get some sleep. For the last couple of years, the airplanes have been a real pain for the residences. I bet if you had to live in our neighborhood, the planes would not sound as if they are coming South Shelby Street Louisville, 40217 November 2001 I have resided in Louisville for the better part of 26 years. I am a concerned citizen and I am concerned about the flight path that the airplanes are flying all during the day today. Planes have been flying at very low, and I understand that the ceiling is pretty low. One just came in real low about 15 or 20 minutes ago. I would like to know if the weather conditions are so bad that they have to fly so low over a city populated with over a million people. And we all know what has been happing around the country. I would appreciate hearing from you and this is a very serious concern. I think our transportation system needs to be managed with the public good in mind, and that needs to be top priority. If you all cannot take the responsibility that you need to take then please call me and give me the phone number and address. Of whoever it is necessary to write to, in regards to flight paths the airplanes are required to take over a very heavily populated residential city. Business is important and it is good to keep a good ratio in Louisville and Jefferson county. I will be glad to take this to whatever authority will be responsible and will do something about this, and make it a public safety priority and to keep the welfare and the good of all the citizens top priority. Anonymous Jeffersonville November 2001 Last night after midnight around 1 maybe there seemed to be a lot of extra air-traffic noise by my house. It kind of frightened me. With what is going in the world I just wanted to make sure that everything is alright. Emma Lou Drive Floyd Knobs, 47119 November 2001 I am a Floyd county resident and I would like to speak with someone regarding the noise study. I read in the New Albany Tribune that the airport is planning to increase traffic over Floyd County. Southern Parkway Louisville, 40214 November 2001 I live in the 4700 block of southern parkway and last night we were bombarded by airplane takeoffs or whatever one after the other after the other I don't think I got any sleep all night. I just wanted to let someone know. Thank YOU Silver Hills Lane New Albany, 47150 November 2001 I want to get on the mailing list for your noise information. And I think I need to get on one of the committees to represent Southern Indiana. Welch Drive Louisville, 40272 November 2001 A couple of minutes a 747 flew over. I guess he was turning west going north. Awful low right over my house he turned east before he got to the Gene Snyder. Thanks. South 26th Street Louisville, 40210 November 2001 Yesterday morning the 19th of November between 0530 and 0630 their were some loud low flying aircraft in west Louisville. W. Ormsby Louisville, 40203 November 2001 What was going on last night at about 11:00p.m. until 1-2:00a.m.from having minimal air traffic all of a sudden we have planes coming in every two minutes. It kept our motion detector lights on all night. And our windows were rattling. Elain Drive Louisville, 40219 November 2001 Many planes coming over this morning in Southern High School area 0451-0641 could only see lights, their were too many clouds. Highland Avenue New Albany, 47150 November 2001 A UPS plane flew over this morning at about 0655. I do not know why you can not move them towards the west a little so they can go over Floyd Knobs where it is less populated, instead of flying them right over downtown New Albany. If one of these planes went down it would take out whole lot of homes on the ground. When this plane went over it shook my whole house. Wurtele Avenue Louisville, 40208 November 2001 I live down by Churchill Downs so I am not that close to the airport. So I am sitting in my own home and I am really getting tired of all the planes flying so low. All my windows are rattling every minute and a half. I am trying to sit in my living room and trying to read a book, but the windows are rattling so hard it is really disturbing. Is there anything that can be done about this can you at least let people know that because of the cloud cover or whatever it is really making a lot of pressure on the ground. Get them to fly a little higher please. Larchmont Louisville, 40215 November 2001 Wanted to complain again about the plane traffic It started last night around 2:00 a.m. It's very, very, very noisy, my windows are being shaken and I couldn't sleep at all last night hardly. I don't know what I am going to do is since I am going to stay here I am probably going to get a lawyer. I have been talking to different people, I have been talking to channel 11 news. I don't know what is going to happen but to me it is just stupid I just spent a lot of money in taxes on this house I just dont think it is right. It's pretty much UPS planes so I am going to inquire about getting a lawyer try to do something with City Hall or something. |
