Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 May 2002 It is 12:30 wed night May the 1st. I just want to register a noise complaint we have been kept awake by the UPS planes flying over here in Clarksville. It started early in the night, actually before 11:00p.m. it is almost 12:30 now it has been continual. I know the cloud cover and everything has forced them to be low but it is really, really noisy tonight. I just wanted to file an official complaint with you again this Wednesday May the 1st. Audubon Louisville, 40213 May 2002 Last night we had a lot of aircraft noise and it was really bad. It has been that way for years, and it gets worse every year around Derby time. We were told several years ago that Audubon Park was going to be getting less noise. Do you have some kind of agreement with the race track to keep the planes away from the horses? Dale Ann Drive Louisville May 2002 There has been an extreme amount of continuous roar coming from the airport I cannot tell if it is coming from Bowman or Louisville International but it is continuous and it shakes the windows. Glen Oak Drive Louisville May 2002 There has been a loud continuos roar coming from the airport today and I want to know what is going on. I will bet it is the C-130's breaking in the Propellers on there airplanes. It is also cloudy and that could be making things worse. This is not an everyday condition, but it does happen occasionally. They need to take those engines to Nevada or somewhere to break them in and not do it here. They made a big mistake when they built that stupid addition to the airport. They should have built it out somewhere away from the people. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 May 2002 The last two nights we have had flights overhead in Clarksville. Last night they stopped about 1:00a.m. and this is Wednesday night and it is almost 2:00a.m. and they are still flying over on a regular basis. I went on the internet and checked weather for Standiford field at 12:00 and the wind was out of the south at only 7 MPH. So I don't know I think whenever the weather get close they bring the flights in from the north. I know you said they rely on reports from the pilots but it seems that whenever it is close or right there on the boarder line they never come in from the south. I will see you at the meeting Thursday. Maybe we can resolve and put into concrete the new flight paths and the planes won't be flying over us anymore. Preston Hwy Louisville, 40217 May 2002 I am tired of this stuff. You are going to have to do something with the people over here on Preston. We are not going to sit still for this much longer. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 May 2002 It is Friday about midnight we are having a lot of overflights here since 11:00p.m. It does not seem like normal UPS patterns, it is about every 4-5 minutes but if it is not UPS it is highly unusual. I just went on WHAS 11 website and FOX 41 website and checked the weather conditions, at 11:45 both are reporting winds out of the east at 3 MPH and the other on says 5 MPH which would not be weather conditions that dictate the counterflow exception. I don't know what is going on, I don't know if these are takeoffs if these are takeoffs then we have a whole new problem because we have never been bothered by takeoffs before. If these are takeoffs that are unusually low or again this is a new one why are we getting a pattern of flights not real similar to UPS landings but still highly unusual that we are getting overflight here every 4 or 5 minutes that are very loud and seem like they are very low flights. Again if they are takeoffs they are not getting altitude prior to coming over Indiana. I feel they are landings there goes another one right now. Again if this is UPS It is not as frequent every 2 or 3 minutes like we usually get but if it is UPS it should not be UPS flights coming in from the North with the wind coming from the north with the winds out of the east at 3 MPH or 5 MPH. Could you check and see what is going on? Packard Ave Louisville, 40217 May 2002 My good neighbor and I have struggled to live I the landing path of one of the parallel runways of Louisville International Airport for several years now. We are both tired of struggling to maintain our homes and live a normal life due to the ever present noise from landing aircraft. We cant do such mundane things as opening a window for a breath of fresh air or to hear the birds sing on a spring morning because of aircraft noise. I have a large front porch, but can no longer use it due to aircraft noise. My windows often rattle from the vibration of you guessed it, landing aircraft. We cant chat for three minutes in our yards due to aircraft noise. My phone conversations are often interrupted because I cant hear due to aircraft noise. I have to turn the TV loud to overcome aircraft noise. My sleep is often interrupted and I have to go to my basement to rest due to aircraft noise. Well, you say, why dont you just move? I believe that my ability to sell my home at a fair, equitable price has been compromised by aircraft noise. Who wants to buy a home that is on the direct landing path of an international airport, just a mile from the runway? The home across the street from mine, long a residential home is now rental property. The home next door to me is now vacant. My quality of life and the value of my property have both been impacted negatively due to aircraft noise. Well, I say, why shouldnt you buy me out? My home has been in my family since 1927, when my parents built it. We were here before the airport and I respectfully request that I be considered for a buyout. I realize that my area is not designated as a buyout zone, but I believe that my particular location, my elderly age (82) and the negative impact the airport has had on the value of my home uniquely qualify me for a buyout option. I do not have years to wait. I think I deserve to be bought out and live my remaining years with some peace and quiet. I look forward to your reply. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 May 2002 We have got planes flying in from the north and all three weather channels are reporting winds out of the west southwest at 3 MPH. This is the 2nd straight time when the planes have flown out of the north when there has been none, this should not be a contraflow exception. I think it was Friday when I called you and the wind were out of the west at 4 and tonight it is west southwest at 3. At the meeting the other night we were talking about reduction in contraflow exceptions and it just seems like the tower is not even trying to do that. If they are going to fly planes out of the north when the winds are out of the west at 3 or 4 MPH there is no chance at all to get a reduction in contraflow. It just seems like leave the runway the way it is and lets not turn it around at 10:00p.m. This is really frustrating for us over here in Indiana for us who hope for the wind conditions to be right so we will not get flights over our head. But even when the wind conditions are correct and there is no wet runway the tower is continuing to bring flights over us. I wish you would let me know why this is happening. Moorefield Circle Louisville, 40241 May 2002 On Saturday afternoon in the Springhurst area there was a helicopter flying around the subdivision setting down in a small field. It kept flying and landing for about 45 min. the number was N861CH. This did not seem like a very safe thing to be doing. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 May 2002 You indicated today that because of Fort Knox we would be getting flights on Thursday, and Friday night but not Wednesday night, well it is 12:30a.m. and they have been flying over since about 11:00p.m. It is not weather related ether because I just checked WHAS and FOX 41 and both are saying winds from the south southeast at 1-3 MPH. I don't know why this time you said it would not be Fort Knox tonight. It just seems like it is easier for them to keep the runway the way it is and not turn it around at 10:00p.m. and just keep the planes coming in from the north. Maybe I am wrong on that, but there have been a lot of flights coming in from the north when we should have been able to get some rest. Rawlings Louisville, 40217 May 2002 I called and talked to you about how low the planes were flying over the eastern Parkway area. They are doing it again today they are coming in landing and they are really low, they are vibrating my house. I think you ought to do something about this. They don't have to be this low coming over my street. National Turnpike Fairdale, 40118 May 2002 For about 3 days now, planes have been coming over my house between about 3:00 and 4:30 a.m. I think that the planes are turning too soon. I live west of the runway and do not understand why planes would be over my house if they went straight out for a longer distance. |
