Low-flying aircraft have woke me out of sound sleep with their loud engine noise. I started to the window, certain it was going to land here in Cherokee Park. One was so low, it looked like it might clip off the top of the condos in Cherokee Triangle. I would like to sleep. The rumbling and squealing of planes trying to come into the airport continues at a rate of about one every 1-3 minutes and it’s very disruptive.

Once again, we had these lousy UPS planes waking us up during the night, and I’ve asked previously that they be routed over I-65 where there is already plenty of noise with trucks and other traffic there. I appreciate your cooperation with this respect.

I’ve been home 10 minutes and there have been 10 planes flying over the top of the house. It’s the eternal question: Why can’t we move them to over the big interstates or highways? There’s one 1/2 mile to the east of here.

I have received your "Friends" letter and would like to know who elected to contain the fewest number of people, because we get noise every night now. Sleeping is out of the question. I think there are some profound social issues as to how this decision process is made. Just to decide who it would be – the people are being subjected to this nightly noise. Please return my call.

Traffic is unusually high along I-65. I have called to complain in the past and not received a response. I would like someone to call me back and explain to me why it is so congested today.

I just need to find out who to talk to about the fact that sleeping is becoming impossible around here. And I’d like to know who is to decide what neighborhood gets to sleep and what neighborhood doesn’t, because this one's not sleeping. If somebody could please give me a call or contact me in someway, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Once again UPS planes woke us up last night. If they’d fly higher altitudes as I’ve mentioned before and over I-65 it certainly be appreciated there. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

At about 2:00 p.m. this afternoon I was working in my yard when I noticed that there were many aircraft flying overhead. This is very disturbing. Are there any regulations that restrict the number of aircraft that fly overhead?

Date of noise event: 5/8/2000. Time: 11:00 – 11:59 I live in the Lincoln Heights subdivision in Clarksville, In and there has been a low flying plane directly over my house EVERY TWO MINUTES FOR THE LAST HOUR! Sometimes 2 at once from 90 degree angles! Not only am I "concerned" about the noise pollution this Louisville nuisance is causing, I am also concerned about the amount of air pollution these noisy monsters are putting out. Louisville, KY made the decision to sell itself to United Parcel Service; Clarksville, Indiana DID NOT. This is a Louisville, KY problem and Louisville, KY should have to deal with it in its own airspace. I'm sure there are enough Hoosiers bothered by this to file a class action suit. And, no, I do not want to receive any more of your nice little mailings concerning "arrivals" they do not do a thing to stop the noise and aggravation and I cannot plug them in my ears or insulate my windows with them. I want UPS out of my air and off my patio!

For 5 nights, I've had aircraft over me. When will we get a break?

Wilwood

The aircraft are over our house constantly, landing at SDF. The weather doesn’t appear to justify lack of contraflow why the numerous late arrivals from north? Why are there so many more aircraft than usual? Why not have the aircraft fly a tighter corridor down the river to line up?

This Sunday we had a lot more aircraft overhead than usual.

The aircraft are screaming overhead and have been all day. What’s different today?

A big jet on approach to land was turning and was making a metal on metal sound I never heard before. I thought I should call and let someone know.

Old Louisville

May 2000

Aircraft are arriving from north over Old Louisville constantly, no in contra flow. There appears to be no winds to cause this or reason for it. What’s the tower’s reason? I want a personal return call from someone at the airport tonight. The person answering the phone was insensitive and would not take my complaint, cut me off the first time and then transferred me to your voice mail. I called back and they put me in your voice mail again. Someone should be there around the clock to take these calls. Don’t you dare call me back tomorrow. I want a personal call from the airport tonight with an answer.

From about midafternoon on, aircraft were departing to the north over the most heavily populated areas around the airport. Wind readings on the field and from NOAA gave directions between 270 and 290 degrees, speeds 8 to 12 knots - nowhere near the thresholds that normally justify these highly annoying operations. Conditions, while cloudy, were dry, and visibility generally good. What other factors are at work here?

Audubon Parkway

Louisville, 40213

May 2000

Aircraft have been taking off to the north all this Sunday afternoon, breaking up what would otherwise be a tranquil time in the neighborhoods there. Each time a departure's occurred, I've gotten a fresh wind reading from the ASOS. Since it's dry and partly sunny, no other factors seem to pertain. Readings have gone from 320 degrees at 6 knots, to "variable" at 3 knots, to 40 degrees at 4 knots, and various points in between. Basically, it's a calm day. So why are operations being mounted in the non-preferred direction, over the most residential areas to be found?

Planes are too loud over my house. I am trying to enjoy the day outside. Tell the pilots to use another runway.

Wildwood

Clarksville, 47129

May 2000

Why, nine miles out is the corridor so small, so narrow that we get 100s of planes flying over our house in two days? You can’t go outside and enjoy and nice day. I don’t get it. Explain it to me. A quarter of a mile each way there is a major highway with noise and no houses, can’t you send the planes over there?

South Second Street

Louisville, 40208

There is too much noise. Why aren’t the planes in contraflow.

Preston Highway

Louisville, 40213

The aircraft noise has been bad this week. They are on top of the house. I bought a scanner and have been listening to the tower directing people only to use 17L because 17R is noise sensitive. What do they think we are? This is a mess!

Wildwood

Clarksville, 47129

May 2000

For the past two nights I haven’t been getting any sleep. The noise starts around 11 p.m. You wouldn’t want your pediatrician going without sleep all day. I know the tower can change the flight path so they aren’t over our house. I just need them to move the planes just a bit.

As president of the Broadfield Resident's Association, I would like to know what the policy is regarding landing patterns at the airport. It was my understanding that there were no jets landing from the east. Recently there were just jets landing in the evening, now it is becoming more frequent. They are very large UPS Jets.

This is the second night in a row that planes have awakened me from sleep. Things had actually been fairly quiet lately, but these last two nights especially have been much worse than usual. I can still hear them, even with earplugs in.

May 2000

You woke me up at 4 a.m. this morning. Can’t you move the traffic to the other side of I-65? Isn’t that why you bought out that subdivision? That is the way the runway runs. Why are they flying over my house this morning?

Clarksville, 47130

May 2000

I live in Clarksville in one of the few quiet neighborhoods left. It seems over the past year there has been a lot more aircraft noise than before. It has become intrusive to the point where I don’t enjoy living there anymore. Have you considered changing the flight path.

The noise is terrible. As a homeowner, I can't even sell my house and move out. What measures are being taken to alliviate this problem. If I soundproof my home, when and how much will I be reimbursed? Where are we at with resolving the noise problems here?

S. 2nd Street

Last night about 10:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. planes were excessivley loud. We have no air conditioning so we need to leave our windows open and we can't get any sleep. At about 9:00 - 9:05 a.m. they started back again.

National Turnpike

The noise from UPS started over my house at 12:52 am this morning and continued almost non-stop until 08:00 am on the May 31st, 2000. Some of these idiot pilots actually flew under 700 feet above my roof (specifically at 12:52 am and 1:12 am) well under the minimum FAA guidelines for 5 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT (ESPECIALLY FOR AFTER HOURS). Is UPS management ignorant enough (or narcissistic enough) to actually believe that they can slowly INCREASE their evening flights over the south end at insanely-low altitudes THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT and the people of the south WILL SIMPLY TOLERATE IT ??? Even UPS Brass can't be possibly be THAT STUPID. UPS MUST RE-EVALUATE THEIR AUDIO ATTACKS ON FAIRDALE AND THE SOUTH OR BE PREPARED TO DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST ON ONSLAUGHT OF PUBLIC OUTRAGE
