Lincoln Drive Clarksville, 47129 July 1999 Im calling to register my concerns about the number of airplanes and air traffic passing directly over my house. In the last hour and a half, there has been a plane, at least one a minute, passing directly over my backyard at a very low altitude. Not only am I concerned about the amount of noise and disruption to a beautiful evening by this aircraft, but I am also very concerned about the amount, degree and content of the air pollution that must be emitted from these very low-flying planes. I hope that this study will actually do something to stop this problem, and that these planes can be re-routed over something other than a residential area. Thank you for your help. S. First Street Louisville, 40214 July 1999 Since quarter til three Sunday morning, we have had nothing but aircraft going over the house. I am 63 years old, and I'm sorry, I'm just getting a little tired of the airport flying over my house at such odd hours. Thank you for your consideration. Floyd Knobs July 1999 I wanted to call in that loud airplanes were flying at a frequent rate over the St. Mary's Church area of Floyd Knobs in the early a.m. last night, mainly from about 12:30 to 3 am and especially around 2 am, making it difficult to sleep. Please report this. Floyd Knobs July 1999 I want to report loud and frequent and bothersome airplanes flying around the area of Martin Road, in Floyd Knobs, IN. Up in this area, theyre flying real frequent, from about 1 a.m. to now, which is 2 a.m. Packard Avenue Louisville, 40217 July 1999 Before the first parallel runway opened we heard that the traffic would go over UofL. They were warning people in Old Louisville to prepare for increased noise. Imagine our surprise when the first planes came directly overhead. Even today when there is a map in the paper it shows the flight path to be west of Preston & Packard. How can this be? Did someone make a mistake? Who can I sue? Packard Avenue Louisville, 40217 July 1999 Silly me. I thought I'd go outside to do some gardening & listen to the British Open playoff on my portable t.v. I forgot, the outside isn't mine anymore, it belongs to the airport. I couldn't hear anything but airplanes. But golf is probably just for those in the east end anyway. Larchmont Avenue Louisville, 40215 July 1999 Airplane noise in our area is quite common. Most of the planes are not a bother during the daytime. A big exception to this are the 747's. These are loud enough to make talking on the phone, listening to the radio, or watching television impossible. At night, however, almost all of the planes are bothersome. There are many times when I have awoken in the early morning to the sound of planes going by every few minutes. The fact that Larchmont is usually very quiet at night makes the noise that much more noticeable. The planes we see and hear generally are either north-east of Larchmont, heading northwest, or passing directly over Larchmont, heading due west . National Turnpike Fairdale, 40118 July 1999 I've lived in Fairdale for 5 years, and in that time frame, my husband and I have never experienced so much airplane noise and disturbance than we have in the past two nights! This is getting ridiculous!! Apparently, the airport and UPS do not feel that the families who just happen to have "inherited the (dis)honor" of living within the flight pattern have much need for sleep/peace and quiet during the night hours!! The inbound planes flew over approximately every 60 seconds (trust me, I was counting) and at such a low level, their flashing lights were lighting up our bedroom to the point we had to move into the guest room. When the noise was still unbearable, we moved onto the living room floor. This disruption lasted until 2:30a each night, less than 1 hour until the UPS outbounds began at 3:30a. I am an active member of the NCSG. After another sleepless night (trust me, there have been MANY over the past 4 years) due to airport noise, my determination to find a solution to this BIG problem had been rejuvenated. My efforts to recruit more community involvement in the program to stop these disturbances will be in full force. This is out of hand!! Parkway Drive Louisville, 40217 July 1999 I would like to know why the National Guard is putting their flying boxcars out at 4:00 4:30 in the morning on the east west runway. Initially the east west runway was suppose to be taken up then they decided they would keep it there for emergencies. Well I dont that weve had that many weather emergencies or national emergencies to warrant the National Guard taking off with those huge planes right over our heads at 4:00 in the morning. So I would like to get that point across. Thank you very much. Lillian Avenue Louisville, 40208 July 1999 I moved to this location about three years ago. Over that period, I have noticed an increase in the number of aircraft flyovers. The highest occurrence is during the early evening and very early in the morning. While I can understand the evening flyovers, I do not believe that flying over residential areas between 4:30 and 5:30 in the morning is necessary for UPS aircraft. Admittedly, this does not occur every day but when it does the noise is very disturbing to residents. My question is, is your study considering the noise levels around the Taylor Boulevard and Central Avenue or the 7th Street and Algonquin Parkway areas? If so, at what times are you monitoring? I am interested in learning more about your findings and any proposed noise abatement options. Thank you. Floyd County District July 1999 Im a member of Floyd County District it seems to me that yall could find something more to worry about then to, you know, worry about the air space. I dont appreciate the mailings I get in the mail. Ive got other things to worry about so Id appreciate it. You know, lets do something that really helps the community rather than worry about whos flying in our air space. Ryan Lane Clarksville, 47129 July 1999 We are plagued with planes going directly overhead. We were listening to the radio outside Tuesday and we cannot even hear the radio for the planes going over. In the spring we like to raise our windows, to get a cool breeze. Starting at 11 oclock at night until 2:30 in the morning UPS planes fly directly over our house. We get very little sleep or rest. We have concerns that our health will suffer from the spent aviation fuel in the air. Another thing is air mishaps caused by severe weather and otherwise. UPS uses the airport during severe weather when commercial passenger planes do not. We are being directly in the flight path. We own over 11 acres of ground and this property has declined in value considerably due to being in the flight path. When the decision was made to direct planes over our property in planning the north south landing approach, we were never ever advised of such plans. We would appreciate anything that can be done to make the flight path over the I-65 Loi Road Floyd Knobs, 47119 July 1999 Just wanted to let you know I saw the recent articles and noise study announcement in Tuesday newspapers, a couple of newspapers were used. I appreciate the effort, I think were making steps in the right direction and I send out a mailing with some information to Floyd Knobs people. I appreciate that the information is now in the library and I hope to see you at the meeting on the 29th. Audubon Pkwy. Louisville, 40213 July 1999 The evening of 25 July, and again late morning and afternoon of 26 July, outbound planes were being routed northward over the most populated areas of the community - the reverse of the preferred pattern. NWS and ASOS both reported winds over this period as mild and generally from the west, ranging from calm to 10 knots. Conditions were sunny and dry. This pattern doesn't appear to conform to the current noise compatibility program. Please advise. Nashua Dr. Clarksville, 47129 July 1999 When planes take off in the northern direction there is always more noise and this seemed to be the case several times lately. Also when planes are coming from the south and have to turn on there approach to the runway, this makes for considerable noise. I thik if the could go out futher as they are up higher and turn, that this would be better. Thinks and have a good day. Granger Road Fairdale, 40118 July 1999 I would like my opinion to be considered at the Airport Noise Public Meeting which is being held July 29th, 1999 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church on Preston Highway. My husband and I, live on Granger Road in Fairdale. We are near the end of the street which is at the foot of the mountain where the M.C.I. and Louisville Gas & Electric towers are located. We have lived here almost five years and during this time the air traffic and noise has increased to the point where it is now becoming almost unbearable. By this I mean it is disturbing our sleep and interfering with outside work and activities. Please understand this is not just an inconvenience it is becoming more of a problem daily. There are certain times of the day and night when the planes fly very low over my residence. When they go over this low the noise is unbearable. I am not speaking of an occasional flight but continuous flights during certain periods of time. Are there any types of devices available which can be used to measure the noise levels? I request a study be done near my residence to determine the precise level of noise in this area. Ryan Lane Clarksville, 47129-1450 July 1999 At night planes keep me awake and I am 75 yrs. Old. I have approximalety 3 acres of land for which the property value has gone down. Pollution caused by the aircraft. I am allergic to it and if affects my health. It freightins me when planes fly over during storms for fear of a mishap. Ryan Lane Clarksville, 47129-1448 July 1999 We are in the flight path of planes landing and taking off at the Louisville International Airport. Just a few days ago we were sitting in our swing in our back yard listening to the radio. When planes flew overhead we could not hear the radio. In the spring, we leave the windows open to get a cool breeze. At night, starting shortly after 11p.m. UPS planes fly over our home constantly until after 2:30 a.m. the noise is so severe that we get very little sleep and rest. With the windows closed, the noise is loud enough to keep us awake interferring with our rest and sleep. We have concerns that our health will suffer from spent aviation fuel in the air we breathe and our safety will be compromised by air mishaps caused by severe weather when commercial passenger planes will not. We own over 11 acres that us in the flight path to and from the Louisville Airport. This property that we own has declined in value considerably due to being in this flight path. When the decision was made to direct planes over our property in planning the North-South landing approach, we were never advised of such plans. We pay taxed and should have been informed. The FAA receives funds to aid in Airport expansion. Those funds come from taxpayers such as the Ryans. This is taxation without representation. We will appreciation anything that can be done to make the flight path over the I 65 corridor which is commercially zoned and away from residential communities Ryan Lane Clarksville, 47129 July 1999 Please do everything possible to minimize the noise level of planes landing through this area. Tiffany Lane Louisville, 40207 July 1999 A plane is flying so low above our house that the plane is buzzing our house and showing a shadow. Lowell Louisville, 40205 July 1999 I observed a small aircraft flying low over my residence and I feel it was too low to be safe. Deshler Drive. Louisville, 40213 July 1999 Noise from planes has become excessively worse all the time. I cant sit outside to enjoy the outdoors due to noise. Indoors, the windows shake and rattle. Im not in the area for the buy-out and I cant sell my house. The new flight paths are very disruptive. Whey they do engine run-ups, it just gets louder, and the planes dont even take off. Perennial Drive Louisville, 40217 July 1999 One of my complaints about the airplane noise that I have not specifically heard is that, I no longer can use my fan to cool the house at night in the spring and fall. Why? If my windows are open and the planes are taking off (and to another degree when they are landing) on the east runway to/from the north they will wake me up. Since I never know when that will be, I now close my windows and turn on the air conditioning during these months. Using the air conditioning more causes air pollution, cost me more in utility bills and I enjoyed the cool air blowing through the house at night. E. Adair St. Louisville, 40209 July 1999 I am up now because of these planes flying over my house. They have been doing it all day and night. Holland Ave. New Albany, 47150 July 1999 Planes flying over my home are not 500 ft. over my home. Airplanes are going north, four of them were closer than 500 ft. I have talked to someone before and told them they could change the flight path to go west over the Knobs. I know this can be done because I have flown for 5 years. Euclid Ave. Louisville, 40208 July 1999 I live at the end of a new runway. It is UPS flying too low over and they are loud at 3 a.m. Yesterday they knocked out the electricity at 3 a.m. It jarred the whole house. It is every morning at 3 a.m. I hear them every morning because they wake me up at 3 a.m. Wurtel Ave. Louisville, 40208 July 1999 Planes have been flying too low over the past three days, consistently too low. They are setting off car alarms in my neighborhood. Please get the planes to fly higher, some pilots do fine, especially on take-offs. Southern Parkway Louisville, 40214 July 1999 Planes for the last 4 days have been one right after another. The planes keep me awake at night so often that I get in y car and go for drives to get away from the noise. Most of the planes are UPS, however, commercial planes are guilty also. The noise is getting out of hand. I will call every day if I have to until this is stopped. Southwestern Parkway Louisville, 40212 July 1999 I have noticed that more and more planes have been flying too low over our area. Often, planes are only about 5 minutes apart. Plane noise starts at 5:30 a.m. We have put up with this for awhile, but the noise and frequency is increasing. The west end never got noise before. Why now, cant you re-route? Montana Ave. Louisville, 40208 July 1999 Since last year, when parts flew out of a plane near over my house, the situations not gotten better. There are more planes and they are noisier and flying lower. Today at 4:20 p.m. a UPS plane flew over and shook my house. Im concerned its flying too low. Also, in early morning, planes are a problem. Im afraid theyre all flying too low. Planes wake me up and scare the household. Anonymous July 1999 On 7/10 there was frequent aircraft activity and noise in my area in the early morning and again from 1 a.m. 2 a.m on 7/13. Hollywood Blvd. Clarksville, 47129 July 1999 After 10 p.m. planes were flying too low over my home. They were so loud I could not sleep. I live in Lincoln Heights in Clarksville and noise has increased tremendously in past 6 months. I feel something should be done right away. I cant afford to keep losing sleep. Tin Dor Way Louisville, 40208 July 1999 Planes flying over my house. You cannot hear yourself think. South Park Road Louisville, 40219 July 1999 Low flying planes. It is so noisy you cant talk to your family or neighbors while sitting outside. They arent even supposed to be flying in this area which is over the South Park Country Club. Granger Road Louisville, 40118 July 1999 From 11:20 p.m. through 1:30 a.m. planes go over at all heights. Often times noise is so loud, windows rattle. You can also see plane lights shining in my window. When expansions first started, we were promised housing sound proofing and insulation along with triple pane windows. When I followed up several months later, we were told the money ran out for this project. Are we still eligible for sound proofing? Please give some answers. South Park Road Louisville, 40208 July 1999 Planes are landing and taking off too close to the house. It lasts until 3 and 4 in the morning and then starts again at 6 a.m. I cant get any sleep. Planning on bringing lawsuit against LIA, UPS and the City for recklessness. Also nothing stays clean in the house from the jet fuel. Granger Road Louisville, 40118 July 1999 I live on Granger Road at the higher elevation area. I propose to have a noise monitor put in this area, the noise is outrageous. Due to the higher elevation of this area the planes are closer to the ground thus much noisier. To give you an example of the ground clearance, the lights from the planes which start coming in around 11:00 p.m. shine in my bedroom window! The noise from these could wake the dead! Please can't something be done. Anonymous July 1999 When planes take off in the northern direction there is always more noise and this seemed to be the case several times lately. Also when planes are coming from the south and have to turn on there approach to the runway, this makes for considerable noise. I think if the could go out further as they are up higher and turn, that this would be better. South Park Road Louisville, 40118 July 1999 After attending last nights noise meeting, we have decided to call and make complaints about the noise over our area. For the last 9 months the noise over South Park has continually increased at all hours day and night. It is not only UPS but commercial airlines, too. Several times they have been so close, it seems like we could touch the bottom of the plane. Lights shine in our windows also. Will the noise get better (lessen?) or increase? We want to know because if it gets worse, we will sell. |
