There is a heavy smell of jet fuel in the air outside my house.

Planes kept waking me and my granddaughter the last 2 nights due to aircraft noise. Why aren’t they using south for approaches and departures?

Planes have been taking off to the north from the east runway this evening. My windows and doors have been closed and still I miss dialog on the television programs because of the noise. Stage 2 or Stage 3 who can tell the difference?

During the night, these planes from UPS come close to here and it keeps me awake for about an hour. I just get settled and then early in the morning they start. Now it seems like, this is a home for retired people there are 3 of them here, there’s xxx, xxx and then the center for people who are really ill. And it seems to me in light of 3 retired people who have a problem, especially on the 5th Street side that maybe you could redirect these planes so they’d go a bit farther and avoid here.

Just about two months ago, less because I was on the phone and then I hung up and called you immediately, there was another screaming airplane going over and it seemed to me like it came from the south east and went tot he northwest. And then last night or early this morning, about, I think it was either 4 or 5 o’clock there was another really loud airplane coming over. But anyway I would like to know what they can do to stop that screaming noise on the airplane. Please let me know.

Since 12:40 Thursday morning we have been getting UPS aircraft steadily. It is now 12:45 and they are still lined up to the east coming in on 11/29. There is no apparent weather to warrant this. I would like to know what is going on over there. What is wrong with your new runways? Are they too slick for these aircraft to use coming in north and south. Give me an answer.

Unusual amount of noise on the west runway tonight, much more than usual. Planes seem lower than usual; it was raining earlier, but is not now.

My house is the National Register of Historic Places; doesn't this protect our neighborhood from this nuisance?!

The aircraft are flying low over my house for what seems like an hour. It is quite noise. Why this area?

I was awakened by a very loud aircraft overhead which shook my windows and the aircraft lights are coming in my room.

Want to report the lowest flying airplane you ever did see that zoomed past my house at about 2:30. It was flying from west to east, somewhat along Loi Road. Went west to east and then looped around and went back toward radio towers up in here and back toward Louisville. I did see four fuel trails streaming behind that it was so low. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks. Bye.

Repeated checks of ASOS and NWS reporting show winds today from the west, generally strong enough (more than 20 knots) to prompt use of the cross-wind runway, 29, but nowhere near a component strength to justify changing direction of main runway operations from south to north. Yet the latter is exactly what has been going on, since at least 4:30 this morning, when the overflights woke me up. Why this disregard of agreed runway use procedures, and resulting maximized noise over the most heavily populated neighboring areas?

Aircraft are flying over me today, although they haven’t for several months or years. What is up?

Aircraft have been flying over the last couple of days and it sounds like a war zone. Are you using a different pattern?

I tried to speak at last night’s noise meeting, but I couldn’t. It is supposed to be a public meeting. The airport is spreading propaganda and not letting us get our say in. We live in a low residential area off Granger Road. The aircraft come over so loud and low that it rattles my windows. In 1991 they told us they would soundproof our houses, but now they say we are not affected by the noise. I live in a valley and the sound hits the slate and reverberates from the planes, which go over every couple of minutes.

Please provide the following information or tell me who I can talk to about the actual altitude of aircraft in the area of Floyds Knobs between Scottsville Road and Moser Knob Road, North of Martin Road and South of Fryburger Road on 1/10/00 and 1/11/00 between 11 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. I would also like to know the name of the air traffic controller in charge, the runways being used for operation and the name of the airline using the airport during those times.

It is 4:30 in the morning and, as usual, I am having difficulty falling to sleep due to the sounds of the airplanes taking off from Louisville International Airport. I have always been a light sleeper, however, this year there seems to be more noise than previous years. My wife and I live in the Woodlawn Manor Neighbor off Briarcliff. We recently purchased new double paned Lawrence Replacement Windows to help reduce the noise. This helped a little but not as much as we had hoped it would. Our next step is to look into adding more installation in the attic. However, we financially can not afford it due to our investment in the new windows. Is there a program that can help with a percentage of the cost of installation? What else can we do to "sound proof" our house? Any support or help will be greatly appreciated. How many planes take off from midnight till 6 in the morning? Are they flying directly above our house? Has a flight pattern changed?

Last evening around 1:40 a.m., a plane flew over that was absolutely too low and therefore too loud. Please find out if this was UPS or commercial and contact me with flight information. I was awakened from a sound sleep, and can’t guess why this plane was so low. I know this was out of bounds.

Arriving flights coming directly from the north, there have been 40 since 7:30 a.m. directly over our house. There are highway corridors just 1/4 mile in either direction that these planes could fly over and not disturb anyone. If they would just move the flight corridor /4 mile either side, the noise would not disturb the people in these fine neighborhoods. I have been to the noise meetings, but I feel it is ridiculous that I have to call every couple of weeks and remind the tower to move these flights, when they could already be doing so. Call the tower and tell them to move the flight corridor.

There is a flight that goes over about 11:50 a.m. that is so loud it shakes our house. We usually don’t have these problems with noise.

Floyd County Indiana

I would like to register a complaint about low, loud and frequent airplanes flying over and most of them making a turn over land in Floyd County Indiana. The planes were flying between Martin Road where old St. Mary’s Church is and Frieburger Roads beginning around 11 p.m. on the 10th and continuing until around 1:30 in the morning on the 11th. Also loud planes going through around 4:00 and 4:20 a.m., disrupted sleep. Planes were heard again on the night of the 12th. Thank you.

It's a clear day, dry and cold. Winds, according to both NOAA and ASOS, are and have been from the east, 80 or 90 degrees, and moderate - at present, 11 knots. Nowhere near stated thresholds for reversing preferred runway use. Yet through the morning, aircraft have been departing to the north, over heavily residential areas, contrary to preferred procedure. How come?

Date of noise event: Every morning and night. Time: All the time.
I would like to know more about the "hush houses" program. My wife and I live West of Preston Hwy just off Briarcliff in the Woodlawn Mannor Neighborhood. We recently purchased new Lawrence Replacement doubled-pane windows in hopes of cutting down the plane noise. Our windows don't vibrate anymore, however, we can still hear the planes. I am a light sleeper and the noise has lately been really stressing us out. We are both up now as usual due to the noises in the sky. It is now 5:00 AM. We were looking into purchasing more installation in the attic, however, due to our big investment in the windows, we are unable to afford it at this time. Exactly what do you have in plans to "hush" a house? We would be willing to sell you our house for $100,000 so you can live here and do more 5 year studies. In our opinion, no pilot will change his flight plans so it is quiet for us. I bet none even give it a thought. Therefore, it is up to home owners to do something on our own.! Please tell us what we can do to eliminate the noise. We would like to see a reputable home builder and a home developer be invited to the meetings to show us what we can do. Surely there is something that we can do such as what movie theaters do. Why don't you hear the movie that is playing in the adjacent room while you are watching another? Let’s get those developers involved. How about builders who build sound proof rooms for recording studios?

We really wished that Louisville International Airport would just buy and relocate all of Jefferson County's residence. That would have been cheaper than building an airport dead smack in our town! Right? You are here. You are loud. What are you going to do about it? We have copies of the last meeting and it appears a lot has been done to evaluate the problem but no one mentioned that the airport is in the wrong place. How many more studies and for how long? Can't you just buy our house or sound proof it? I am sure it would be cheaper that what you are currently paying everyone to study it?

We apologize for this letter. We just keep thinking that since you are our neighbors and your are disturbing the peace, that we have the right to complain. We wish we could just call the police on the noise you are creating over there.

We need action today!

There is a real heavy smell in the air like kerosene or diesel fuel; so it must be that jet fuel. It’s real bad. Thank you.
