Campion Road Floyd Knobs, 47119 December 2001 Can you imagine being awakened in the night by the sound of an airplane that is so close it sounds as if it might crash into your home? This is a common event in my home. I am writing to express my concern over the airport's consideration of rerouting planes over Floyd County, IN (Alternative #3). I am a resident of Floyd County and I live on top of one of the knobs. I am very upset with the increase in traffic being considered over the top of my house. My family is awakened several times in the evening hours due to the noise level of the planes. I live in a subdivision (Whispering Woods; off of Campion Road) and many of my neighbors are expressing the same concerns I have. These planes fly low enough to not only wake my family but we are even able to read the numbers on the belly of the planes. There have been times that we've not only been awakened but wakened suddenly in fright because it sounds as if the plane will fly right into my house! I am not exaggerating my concerns and I invite you to my home if you find this difficult to believe. This is also not to mention my concerns that there are fluids that drop from these planes that we've noticed occasionally. I feel that with the planes increasing over Floyd County endangers not only my family but also Floyd Knobs Elementary - the largest elementary in Floyd County. Please consider that I do not live in Louisville and I do not wish to have Louisville International's airport noise in my backyard. This is a problem for Louisville and should not be the problem of those who are living in Floyd County, Indiana. Please consider how high our knobs are and that these planes, while you'd like to believe are flying very high to not disturb us, are causing a great amount of concern for us. They are not only disturbing our rural way of life in Floyd County but are endangering our children and the families that live here. Wildwood Clarksville, 47129 December 2001 I am awaiting the outcome of the noise study so I have not called recently. For the last five days it has been absolutely unbearable. I am going to say a minimum of 200 flight a day right over the house tops, unbelievably loud and low isn't there something they can do? Why do we have to wait to get these into the industrial corridors that we have talked about? It is just incredibly frustrating to be unable to be outside, you can not even throw a ball around and have a decent conversation. It really does diminish the quality of life. If there is anything that can be done I would certainly appreciate it. You need not call me back just take it on up the power chain. S. Sixth Street Louisville, 40203 December 2001 I have ignored this several times. But I am going to force myself to call you when things are really bad. Monday the 3rd of Dec I was watching the clock every minute it was going on 1230 or 1 when I was able to dose off. It is almost 10 now and it looks like I am in for the same thing again tonight. Woodstone Drive Floyd Knobs, 47119 December 2001 It is 10 after 1 in the morning I live in Spring Park subdivision in Floyd Knobs Indiana and the airplanes are flying so low over my house tonight that I can here the landing gear come down. The plane that went over at 5 minuets till 12 and the one about 7 after 12, were so low that my house shook. I would like for someone to call me back on this. This is getting to be an everyday event. I used to live by the airport and the planes were never this close, and I would like to have an explanation. Elain Drive Louisville, 40219 December 2001 I had several planes that are turning in front of my house. That means they are turning too soon. It was from 0400 to 0412 on Thursday Preston Hwy Louisville, 40217 December 2001 The planes are back, they have been back for awhile. It is about time to do something. You just can not expect people to live like this. I hope they stay away tonight so I can get some sleep. UPS is not the only one who is busy this time of year. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 December 2001 I have talked to you a couple of times, I have tried to get hold of you today but I keep getting your machine. Just wandering if there is going to any relief soon for Southern Indiana residents we have had 3 straight days and 2 night of continues landing. The noise levels are extremely high. I talked to some of our people over here we thought there would be several hundred but it appears there are several thousand. We have people who have health conditions that are being made worse by lack of sleep. Because of the consistent and constant landings at night. We are even having talk of moving to get away from the noise. So it is that sever of a situation over here. Up through December we have had 6 of 12 days in December we have had landings at night. What used to be maybe once a month occurrence is now 50% and could go even higher. Real concern again we are just exploring our options we don't know what we can do there have been some financial things that have been suggested. Some small businesses have suggested we boycott UPS and switch to FedEx. We even have gotten some literature from FedEx that might help support that. We do not want to do that but we are getting frustrated. We are at the point where it is becoming more than an inconvenience. It is becoming an interruption of lifestyle. We have talked about this before but we feel it is more than just weather conditions there is a definite pattern going on here. We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of flights. Anonymous Louisville December 2001 I was kept awake last night for 2 solid hours from 11 PM to 1 AM by planes flying overhead. I would like to know when that is going to change so I can get more sleep. This is and urgent matter and very important. St.James and Magnolia Court. Brazil Lake Pkwy Georgetown, 47122 December 2001 There seems to be an increase in flights during the day. At 9:15 AM Sunday morning a UPS plane went over and he was low. Merwin Avenue Louisville, 40217 December 2001 I have spoken with you before about noise problems. Right now it's about 0520 on Tuesday morning the 18th of December. UPS planes have been coming in for the last hour and a half very low to the ground very loud I haven't slept, your probably home sleeping right now. This is becoming a nuisance. Leaf Drive New Albany, 47150 December 2001 I am calling about an article that appeared in the Indiana edition of the Courier Journal this morning. They said to call this number if there were any complaints on airplane noise. I can certainly complain I live off Charleston road near the Floyd Clark county line and noise is bad many nights it starts between 10 and 12 PM I guess you could put me in the highly annoyed category whatever that means. You should be looking for ways to reduce noise in the late hours instead of increasing them. This is scary to think there is going to be 10 times the number of flights. You should be looking for ways to reduce flights in this area. Deepwood Drive Clarksville, 47129 December 2001 I was reading the Courier this morning regarding airport noise. I wish I would have had your number long before now. I did not know that your position existed. I want to add my name to the list of those who are protesting these incredibly noisy UPS planes that come over my house coming and going day and night. I have a terrible problem trying to sleep with those things sound like they are buzzing right over our roof. When they start taking off at night it is usually about 11 PM and goes till at least 3 AM and it drives me out of my mind. I used to be in media and media relies mostly on surveys generally 1 person represents 500 of a certain persuasion. So please if you will consider there are 500 more like me who do not. Thanks. Fairway Floyd Knobs December 2001 We are putting flights over people who moved up here to get away from that sort of thing. I do not want to get anymore flights. Denise Way Floyd Knobs, 47119 December 2001 We have been inundated by loud low flying planes. Most of them are high up and not a problem though. Scottsville Road Borden, 47160 December 2001 I am not complaining about noise now, I am just concerned about the proposed plan. Anonymous December 2001 I live between New Albany and Floyd knobs I understand that I can report my concerns to you of the flights over my house which is terrible now and I certainly hope that we can do something to prevent it from getting any worse than it already is now. Jefferson Court Georgetown, 47122 December 2001 I just wanted to let you know that we get airplanes now and I am not happy with the thought of getting more. Please inform me of any upcoming meetings. Bellemeade Drive New Albany, 47150 December 2001 I have a complaint about the noise from aircraft that are flying directly over my house and they are just about landing on top of my house. I just wanted to register that complaint. Thompson Lane Jeffersonville, 47130 December 2001 I read the article in the paper the other day. I can see the wheels of the aircraft also and I do not think the noise is that bad. The reason the planes are so low is that they have to come in and land. We need the airport and the planes because of all the jobs they provide. Quarry Road New Albany, 47150 December 2001 The noise is just terrible up here. We are higher than you and that makes it much worse. You must have changed flight paths in the last couple of months or so because it is worse than it has ever been. Blackstone Mill Clarksville December 2001 I was reading about the UPS planes in the paper I live in Clarksville and they fly right over me and you just keep them planes flying right over me. If you have your windows shut you can not hear any of them. So dont pay any attention to that, the boom box radios and cars make far more noise that the planes ever do. So you just keep them airplanes coming. I will take the noise to keep all the jobs. Merry Christmas. |
