The following comments and questions have been received by the Regional Airport Authority and consultant team and appear unedited in their entirety. Questions and comments received through the Project Information Line, Project Website, and/or Public Information Centers will be forwarded to the RAA and responded to by the consultant team at the next Study Group Meeting, and posted on this site. |
Clarksville , IN April 1999 I serve as the Indiana representative on the Coordinating Council and have received some comments regarding areas that airplane noise is a problem. So I would like to pass these comments on to the consultants. I am sure that some people have contacted the RAA about noise, so the areas may already be documented. 1. Falls of the Ohio State Park - wildlife sanctuary 2. Parkwood subdivision - Greentree North and Potters Lane 3. Andalusia & Accrusia - off Eastern Boulevard near I-65 4. Lincoln Heights area - near Highway 131 and Brown's Station Way 5. Crandon Park area - off Gutford Road 6. Floyd Knobs - Loi Road Also, one person who contacted me suggested using the I-65 corridor as an approach to the airport instead of flying over residential areas. Also, I have a personal comment regarding the noise monitors. I think it is going to be difficult to address all the problem areas with only 20 monitors for 24 hour periods. It may be scientifically that seems adequate. However, I think the perception of the public is going to be that not enough monitors were used and the time frame was inadequate. Public confidence in the results of the monitors was stated as a goal, but I think it is going to be difficult to achieve with the plan as it is.I understand money is a consideration regarding number of monitors, but it might be good to address specifics of what the cost of more monitors would be.
Southland Blvd. Louisville 40214 April 1999 * The airport noise has gotten louder since the western runway has been opened. *?Why havent sound barriers been used? *?Why arent quieter airplane engines being used? *?Of the total amount of takeoffs and landings, what percent of the western runway is used? *?At times it is impossible to sleep in Iroquois Village because of the noise coming from the airport. *?Of the total takeoffs and landings, what percent are UPS airplanes? *?Because of the traffic congestion on Southside and 3rd Streets, why hasnt Crittenden Drive been completed? *?What causes the noise vibration (echo) on Southland Blvd. near IroquoisPark that is heard from the airplanes? *?Is the Eastern Parkway runway shut down? If not, what percent it is used for takeoffs and landings?
Overbacker Court Louisville 40208 April 1999 I may be recovering from surgery when the monitoring sites are picked. However, I live in Old Louisville, and we have a lot of urban noise. I believe my court would be a good place for a monitor, as I cant go out of my back door at any time of day without hearing a plane!
Myrtle Street Louisville 40208 April 1999 I have always been thrilled by aircraft and cannot stop myself from looking up whenever one comes overhead so I am reluctant to complain. However between the night hours of 10-11 PM and 5-6 AM on evenings when aircraft are approaching over my house the landing and slowing down process disrupts my sleep and is frightening. It seems that especially around midnight the aircraft come in groups that might take over an hour to pass. I have read that there is an engine tuning process that can minimize the 'whining' noise, is this still possible? Thank you for the opportunity to voice my complaint concerning current airport noise.
Packard Avenue (off Preston Highway) Louisville 40217 April 1999 Airplane traffic over my home has greatly increased in the "last two weeks." Ive lived in that house for years and the frequency has greatly picked up. I sleep in the living room instead of the bedroom (and "new bed") to try to reduce the impact of noise. I understand and can handle some noise, but it's been unbearable lately. I am also on blood pressure medicine. There are a lot of elderly people in my neighborhood who probably would not call but are adversely affected nevertheless. Last night (May 12) noise started continuously around 8:00p.m. and continued until 2:30 a.m. (May 13). The continuous noise used to occur a couple days per week but now its up to three or four days. I want to have a monitor at my house.
