Mccoy Way Louisville, 40205 April 2002 The airport has not been rotating the flights like they should be. I received a letter from Tina Ward Pugh's office sometime last year saying that the airport was supposed to rotate the directions of the takeoffs on a weekly basis. I know they have not done that for at least the last 3 months, because this area has been getting hammered. 1 plane in particular every day between 1230 and 1430 has been buzzing the houses. He came over today at 2:24 p.m. going west. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 We are getting steady over-flights here they have turned the runways around on us. A couple of things I would like for you to check on. Weather said winds out of the west at 7mph, and the altitudes of these planes, they are right on top of the houses. Is there anyway you can check that too. They seem to be much, much lower than they normally are. Obviously these are the UPS jets because they are coming about every three minutes here. Winds out of the west at 7 gives me some concern that they are not landing into the wind if it is not coming out of the south, and the altitude of these planes. We had 12 nights in March where they turned the runways around on us. 40% of the flights at night have been over Southern Indiana. Preston Hwy Louisville, 40217 April 2002 You need to tell those people that the noise over here is terrible and we are not going to take it much longer. We are tired of having the airport run our lives. Last night the planes started coming in and they were none stop on right after the other. Merwin Avenue Louisville, 40217 April 2002 If somebody wanted to stay in an area where there is noise instead of have their home purchased, would the airport do any kind sound insulation instead of buying them out? E. Riverside Drive Jeffersonville , 47130 April 2002 Those planes were taking off to the north again last night. When I looked out at my flag pole the flag was limp as a noodle. Could you let me know why they were departing towards the north this morning? Larchmont Louisville, 40215 April 2002 I just wanted to make another complaint about the airplane noise last night. It was really really bad, it was like they were flying right over my house about 3:30 to 6:30 in the morning. And the night before they were flying over and there was one day last week, and another day or two the week before. Last night was of the worst nights that I can remember, I mean the windows were vibrating, it was like the bottom of the planes were flying right over my house. I don't know if there is anything else I can try and do I may try to talk to a few more of these congress people. Last night was just absolutely horrendous. I think if this keeps going on it will bring the value of the homes down around here. I am probably going to have to wind up moving or something. The planes have not been flying over too much but the last two nights have been absolutely horrible I could not sleep at all, I was up from 3:00 am all the way till 6:00 AM. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 It is about 11:30 PM and as you are probably aware we are having UPS flights flying over us. I anticipated this when I saw the weather forecast and saw the winds would be out of the south at 10 MPH. And I know that the runway is wet. The only concern I have, and it seems as though, and I think I reported this to you last time is that it seems the planes are even closer than before. I do not know if there is a change in the altitude don't know if you have any way of checking that but.. I have had a couple of people comment the same thing it is as though they are right on top of the houses. Much louder, much nosier, well maybe not much but somewhat louder and somewhat nosier than they are usually. Just wondered again if there is a means of checking how high they are when they are over here, but almost makes you want to duck you head they are that low it seems like. Another night, this is the 8th of April and we have had a week of relative quite so I don't guess we can complain too much, but any night they fly over it is hard getting to sleep. North Skyline Drive Floyds Knobs, 47119 April 2002 I have had planes flying over my house every minute pretty much for the last hour and a half. I was told by someone at the airport authority that you all do not track UPS flights and I was just really curious as to why that was? I am awake and I have to get up a 6:00 a.m., I am sure you can appreciate that sleeping in your warm bed wherever the hell you are. But it is quarter after 12 and I have to get up at 6:00 AM. So anyway it would be really terrific if you could call me tomorrow and let me know why the hell you are flying over my house every two minutes, and yet I am not in a flight zone etc, etc etc. and why you are not keeping track of UPS flights? I am just truly, truly amazed and I really feel that there are grounds for litigation. Anyway aside from that please call me and let me know if there is any rectification that we can come to because honest to God I am ready to move out of my house. I hope you are having a pleasant evening. Good-bye. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 I am calling about the UPS planes flying over Clarksville. This is Thursday evening and I thought we might get some sleep tonight. The 3 weather stations said, 2 of them said the winds were out of the south east at 3 and the other one said the winds were calm so it is disappointing that with those weather reports that we get flights, and, that the runway has been turned around. I don't know why their forecast differs quite a bit from what the airport is experiencing but anyway we thought this might be a night for some sleep but it looks like it is going to be interrupted. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 It is Friday night the 12th and we have got UPS planes flying overhead. This one is a little more understandable the wind is out of the southeast at 7 or 8 mph and I know the runway is supposed to be wet. Thursday night is still a mystery though, why the winds we out of the south east a 3 and some of the station were calling winds calm. and yet they still ran the planes over Southern Indiana. 4 days out of 12 it looks like they are right on target to hit 10 to 12 days for April. that is what they have been doing the last 5 or 6 months. It has been 10 or 12 nights each month, so it looks like we are on target to do it again unless something strange would happen. Another night of no sleep. Wildwood Clarksville, 40219 April 2002 We have had over a hundred planes just right over the tops of the houses today, I can't tell you how annoying it is. It is impossible to be outside, just about the time you here the birds singing here comes another one nose to tail, noise to tail it is just beyond me, you know you mentioned the system could be tweaked once we get a recommendation why cant we put this traffic over all the commercial corridors in Clarksville there is one a quarter mile east of us there is one a quarter mile west of us, yet the planes continue to fly right over the middle over this quite, once quite treed neighborhood. there are so many options with in a quarter of a mile, could you look into that and tell me why just a quarter of a mile can't be done while we are tweaking things as you mentioned before. I have been asking that question for five years though so I guess the answer is more complicated than I might think. Something could be done to move these into the commercial corridors into which there are many. Why dothey come over the neighbor hoods? I still do not get it. Explain it to me. You can call me at the office or at home. you know what I am interested in is kind of an answer not just kind of someday we may be able to do something about this, it is intolerableit makes Sunday afternoon a horror show, where it should be the most relaxing time of the week. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 This is Monday the 15th they have turned the runways around on us so we have UPS planes flying over us again tonight, three straight nights now, Thursday, Friday and Monday. And it happened one other time in the last seven days. And again the local weather channels are saying winds from the south at 3 mph. It seems almost as though it is almost easier for the controllers to keep the runway arrivals coming out of the north rather than at 10:00 p.m. switch it around. It seems like any indication of south wind even if it is very, very minimal is enough to turn the runway around. I don't know again, you talked about pilots higher wind speeds at altitudes but it just seems strange when the weather is reporting calm winds, or at the most 3 MPH winds out of the south inevitably the runways are turned around. But discounting weekends for the last 3 or 4 months it has been over 50% of the flights at night UPS flights are coming out of the north. And I know their are unusual weather patterns and things like that but, it seems like on nights when we have those 10 or 15 MPH winds when planes have to fly over Southern Indiana, then we have those night when winds are 2 or 3 MPH or are just calm we are still flying them in..... Sherwood Ave Louisville, 40205 April 2002 Thank you for waking me up at quarter after midnight with your god#### airplane noise you sons of #######. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 This is Tuesday the 16th and we have late night flights flying over Clarksville again tonight I think this is the forth straight night we have had them. And with the projected weather forecast predicting winds out of the south tomorrow it looks like Wednesday will be another night of interrupted sleep over here. But anyway wanted to lodge a formal complaint. We are again in this neighborhood in this area again being over flown by the UPS jets and I think this is 6 nights out of the possible 12 in April so right on par to get 12 or 13 nights again this month. Wieseka Hill Road Borden, 47106 April 2002 It seems like when the planes make their turn up here they lose the altitude that they might have had. I had 3 planes last night between 1:00-1:15 AM light up my living room with their lights. This does not happen all the time, only occasionally. Sometime they come over low during the day and it does not bother me as much. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 It is Thursday night and the UPS planes have started. I did get your letter and I know there were 2 days Monday and Tuesday the weather report did not indicate that the winds were such. Tonight the weather reports have indicated that the wind is out of the south at 7-10 MPH so we are right on the line. This is probably justified. My concern is that there seems to be days when the wind is blowing out of the south that the runway is turned around and we get flights out of the north. It almost seems like any wind out of the south is prompting that. That makes six or seven straight days that we have had flights over southern Indiana, and I think that is 8 out of 12 so far this April, so about 60% of the time they have been coming over our area and Clarksville. Another rough night of trying to sleep over here. Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 It is Friday evening the 19th, this is the 7th straight night that we have had UPS flights over Southern Indiana. We need some kind of a break here this is nine out of 15 nights in April. So 60% of the time they are turning the runways around and brining the flights in from the north. Again I am in agreement that we cannot do anything about the weather. But once more my concern is on those nights where the winds are very marginal as to when the runways should be turned around. It looks like we are seeing that happening anyway. I do not think this is one of those nights. Especially since the winds are out of the south according to the weather reports at 5-7 mph. There is rain expected tonight so the wet runways is probably why they are doing it. But, there have been 2 or 3 nights this month that I just could not understand why they are bringing the flights over southern Indiana maybe we will get a chance to talk about it in May, but it is making sleep very, very difficult for us over here, and we need a break. Minors Lane Louisville, 40219 April 2002 Last night we had a lot of plane noise and between 4:15a.m. and 4:30a.m. one seemed really low. Kahlert Louisville, 40215 April 2002 Your planes wake me up sometimes between about 3:30a.m. and 5:00a.m. It does not happen all the time. I started noticing it around September 11th. My sister came for a visit and I also noticed it several times then. I just want to know if this is some kind of permanent change? Spicewood Drive Clarksville, 47129 April 2002 It is Wednesday the 24th going on midnight as you are probably aware we have UPS flight going over our head again tonight. 10 nights this month out of 18 and it looks like we are running about 60% of the time the flights are coming from the north over Southern Indiana. Just thought I would let you know we are again being disturbed by the UPS flights and hopefully on May the 9th we will have some kind of solution for these people who are affected by the noise in this neighborhood. W. Evelyn Ave. Louisville, 40215 April 2002 I have lived here for approximately 2 months and I was awaken last night by UPS airplanes at about 3:30a.m. have you changed flight patterns over there? |
